Some people choose to work in live events. I didn't. I was born into it. Molded by it. My father brought me into production, and what started as following him through load-ins became a craft I couldn't put down.

I've always loved making things. I built my first computer as a teenager, less because I needed one, but because I wanted to know how it worked. That same impulse is what kept me in this industry long after I could have left. These days it shows up in the kitchen and the woodshop too. There's something about pouring yourself into something and watching someone enjoy the result that never gets old.

I spent my teenage years doing weddings and party decor lighting, grew into a lighting programmer through my twenties specializing in corporate events, and eventually put that computer science degree to use in the video department learning how everything works, and then mastering it. From there: show calling, project management, technical direction. Twenty-plus years across nearly every position in a production means I know what every chair in the room needs from every other one, and what needs to happen for a flawless event.

You spend weeks building something that exists but briefly, in real time, in front of people who only get to experience it once. That's exactly why it deserves to be done right.
